Go Camping This 4th of July

Happy Wednesday, Gamers,

It is time once again for the weekly update from Micro RPG. This week's games include a new adventure for Micro Chapbook RPG and something special (and a bit weird) in honor of the 4th of July here in America.

Go Camping This 4th of July

Nothing quite says summer like a good old camping trip. Many of us love camping and hiking. I know I do. Nothing helps my creativity and motivation like being out in nature. However, any good camping trip can be ruined by a sword-wielding maniac.

Today I am happy to announce the first Deluxe Adventure Module for Micro Chapbook RPG. It is a summer themed adventure for one player that takes heavy inspirations from some of my favorite horror flicks. Before becoming a full time game designer, I was actually a publicist and journalist for the horror community. I have a great love for all things horror, especially "theme" horror movies like summer camp.

Midnight on Black Lake makes nods to many of these films I've so loved.

The small and remote town of Black Peak is in an uproar over a recent string of disappearances. Recently, a group of the town’s youth headed up the mountain towards an area called Black Lake on a dare. Unfortunately, the group never returned. Having recently arrived in town yourself, the town Lord and other town members are desperate to get your help to find out what happened to the missing youths, and to discover the dark secret of Black Lake.

This new Deluxe Book only costs 99 cents! I really loved working on this one, so expect more adventures in the future.

Take to the Roads . . . During the American Revolution?

I often love weird and strange themes in games. This new game is no different.

This week's FREEBIE is Road Patriots, an alternate history, steampunk skirmish wargame set during the American Revolution.

Players will build steam cars to battle on the field alongside militia and military in this miniatures game!

Mount a cannon on your car, or simply fire muskets from the cab. It's up to you.

This game is FREE to download in honor of the 4th (or you can make a small donation to support more free games).

That's all for this week. I will be spending the rest of the month relaxing at home with some historical American Rev wargames and celebrating the 4th with friends and family. So, no new games next week. Please enjoy the many FREE ones I already have up online. Stay happy. Stay safe. Game on.

Don't Be BOARD at Home . . . Make it an Adventure!

Hello Friends and Gamers,

It is time once again for the Micro RPG weekly update! Summer is upon us and for some reason that puts me in the mood for games! I had many a happy summer day spent in the cool air-conditioned living room of my childhood home or on vacation visiting grandma's house crowded around a board game with my two brothers. We played anything we could get our hands on from Chess, to Checkers, to Monopoly, to Clue, and even the old 1993 Jurassic Park Game. Nothing quite says "summer time" to me like a board game.

That's why, this week, I'm thrilled to bring you a fully fledged print and play board game!

Don't Be BOARD at Home . . . Make it an Adventure!

I am happy to announce a large project I've been working on. The Micro Chapbook RPG Board Game! Taking the basics of the system you all know and love and distilling it into a board game, I've created a compact adventure for 1-4 players. Travel an open world map. Explore the wilderness. Visit towns. Delve into dungeons. But it's more than that. It is also a fully compatible game supplement if you want to combine your other Micro Chapbook RPG products with it! You can also expect new gamebooks, campaigns, and adventures set in the region depicted here on the game map! Pick up this print and play version today for only $2.99. A fully printed retail version with game pieces will also be available for order down the road--depending on the interest and success of this version.

Included in the print and play version is:

  • A two-section square board game. The World Map and the Dungeon Map.
  • A Deck of Character Portraits.
  • A Deck of Quest Cards.
  • A Deck of Location Cards.
  • A Deck of Spell Cards.
  • Damage Cards
  • Character Sheets
  • Game Instructions
  • Build Tips
The physical version, if printed, will also include 8 quest markers, dice, and character portrait standees. If you want to see an official version in print, make sure to drop me a line on the Micro RPG Facebook page or the Micro RPG Players group page.

Weekly Freebie!

Now, it wouldn't be a weekly update without a new FREE game! My current goal is to have one inexpensive paid game and one free game (at least) every week. It matters to me that those who love the gaming hobby, but may not have disposable means for said hobby, have access to cheap and free products! I find it is especially important right now when many of us have less money coming in but are looking for breaks from the craziness around us. Sometimes, sitting down to a simple game can be the best relaxation and therapy a body needs!

This week I'm bringing you the 3rd entry in the Micro Chapbook Wargame series. This time, I bring you Crusader Vs. Skeleton!

A necromancer has raised a great Skeleton Army. The righteous army of the crusaders are determined to thwart this unholy evil. Who will win?

Crusader Vs Skeleton is a Micro Chapbook Wargame--an ultra-light miniatures skirmish game that fits in a single folded chapbook. Simply print off the two rules pages back-to-back, fold in half, and you have a completely playable Micro Chapbook Wargame.

These rules are specially designed for solo play but may also be used as quick and simple rules for a one on one miniatures game. Combine with other Micro Chapbook Wargames for extra options!

This file includes both the full-color and printer-friendly versions.

Pick this up for FREE (or for a small donation) on DriveThru and Wargame Vault!

Upcoming Hints

It is summertime, so expect some coooool summer games to be heading your way. Some things you might see in the works include.

  • A Dinosaur Themed Roll and Write
  • A Shark Themed Roll and Write
  • A Summer Camp Themed Game
  • A 4th of July Themed Adventure Module
  • A Medival Low-Magic Game

That's all for this week, friends! Keep cool! Stay safe. Be kind to one another! Have fun!

To The Stars . . . and Beyond

Hello, Friends,

It is time for the weekly update from Micro RPG! This week I'm sending the update a few days early as I will be taking an extended weekend to "recharge the batteries" so to say. Also, I couldn't wait to let all of you know about the new Deluxe Core Rulebook that just dropped on DriveThru!

To The Stars and Beyond

So many of you have asked for it. In my recent survey, the #1 genre people wanted to see more of (after fantasy, of course) was science fiction. So, I am happy to announce that the Micro Chapbook SciFi RPG now has its own official deluxe core rulebook! You can download it now for only $1.99! The book includes all the rules and then some. Most exciting of all, it has a "Mission Generator" which allows for mixed up scenarios whenever you play.

WEEKLY FREEBIE!

If you are a bit strapped for cash at the moment, no worries. You can get the new stand alone Scifi scenario chapbook for FREE (or a small donation). A crew of Space Pirates have abducted a peaceful convoy ship transporting politicians. Can you board the ship and kill the Pirate King before it is too late?

The stats for the Space Pirates is also in the core rulebook!

COMING SOON

Also coming down the project line are two more deluxe books. The first is a Campaign book for the Micro Chapbook RPG core fantasy system. The other is another deluxe core rulebook in a new genre! Keep your ear to the rail for these books in the coming month or two. Also look for new freebies each week!

Have a happy rest of your week

BLAST BUGS IN SPACE!

Hello Gamers,

Its Noah here again sending you out the weekly update for Micro RPG! We have a lot to show you this week! Things are really hard for so many people right now, financially, emotionally, physically, socially, so I've made sure to include LOTS of freebies this time around! Enjoy!

Blast Bugs in Space!

I've been tons of requests to do more in the SciFi Micro Chapbook RPG series. Up to this point, there has only been the singular chapbook--System Breach. Well, I am happy to announce the release of the second chapbook in the series: BUG SHIP.

A derelict ship left floating in space. You fear it may be infested with a race of bug aliens who attach to a host ship and feed off the crew. Can you exterminate these bugs before they eat you?

Bug Ship is an ultra-simple science fiction roleplaying game where you explore a derelict ship.  It can be played solo or with a traditional GM if you so wish. This game is based on the extremely popular grimdark fantasy Micro Chapbook RPG system.

These rules are specially designed for solo play on a grid map or graph paper but may also be used as quick and simple rules for a traditional GM run RPG game. Combine with other Micro Chapbook RPGs for extra options!

This file includes both the full-color and printer-friendly versions.

As always, pick it up for FREE right now (or by making a small donation if you wish to support continued free games!)

Mistress of Shadow is a Micro Chapbook RPG--an ultra-light roleplaying game that fits in a single folded chapbook. Simply print off the two rules pages back-to-back, fold in half, and you have a completely playable Micro Chapbook RPG.

These rules are specially designed for solo play on a grid map or graph paper but may also be used as quick and simple rules for a traditional GM run RPG game. Combine with other Micro Chapbook RPGs for extra options!

This file includes both the full-color and printer-friendly versions.

TAKE THE GAME WITH YOU!

At the request of a few gamers, I've gone ahead and made the pocket edition of Micro Chapbook RPG Core Rulebook available in a PDF format in addition to the print format. It contains most of the same content as the Deluxe rulebook, minus a few elements. You can print out the pages 4 to a sheet and then cut them out and bind them to create your own miniaturized version of the book. It only costs 99 cents. You can also get a printed copy on Amazon for $4.99.

A Last Thought

Finally, I wanted to take a quick moment to respond to many of you who filled out my survey this past week. First and foremost, thank you for your time and opinions. It was awesome to see such a large response from the community. Second, many of you had many good ideas. I wanted to let you know that many of these games were/are already in the works. One person asked about being able to play a vampire or werewolf in some of the games. Rest assured, that idea is being played with. Another player liked the idea of a paleolithic setting. That is also being worked on! In fact, I have an old board game titled Neanderthal: Danger of the Wilds I made a couple of years back but never published that should be coming to print and play format in the next month or so. Another person wondered about an RPG that didn't rely on violence. Yes, in fact, I even have a Micro RPG gamebook that is about a different concept or topic than fighting enemies that I think many will enjoy. The vast majority of people said they loved the fantasy and sword and sorcery stuff the most, so that will get the main focus of my attention--but that doesn't mean other genres will go untouched. This is a one-man show. I work full time at this, but even then I can only put out new books so quickly. Thank you all for the support and you expect new gamebooks every week! I'll be announcing the winner of the free upcoming deluxe gamebook soon as well!

Thanks,

Noah

NEW RPG: Undead Nights

Hello again, gamer friends! It has been a long time since I released a traditional RPG--one that doesn't have a game board and instead is played in the gamer's imagination. One with a Game Master at the helm. It seems odd, considering I got started publishing games by doing ultra simplistic RPGs.

Well, it's about time I got around to it again. And thanks to one follower who asked for a new zombie game. Here it is! One that I started working on over a year or more ago and never finished. The latest in the Chapbook RPG series: Undead Nights!

Here is the blurb from the back of the manual:

Welcome to Undead Nights, a ChapBook Roleplaying Game (CBRPG). What is a ChapBook game? It is a light pen and paper game where the rules take up no more than thirty to forty pages total. It is intended to be fast to learn and easy to play.

What is Undead Nights? It is a game of horror adventure and survival set in the nuclear zombie apocalypse.

What do you need to play? You’ll need this ChapBook, a single six-sided die (known as a D6 in these rules), pencils, paper, one friend to act as Game Master (GM), and one to five friends to act as Survivors.

You can pick up the game now at a discounted price for only 50 cents through DriveThru RPG. Or, if you prefer print, you can wait for the paperback copy to come to amazon in the next week.

Also, if you have a friend who likes simple games, this tiny-sized pocket style book could make a great stocking stuffer.

One Page Dungeon: Volume 1: Fire in the Goblin Forge (FREE)

Hello, gamers! Today I am excited to announce the release of my new print and play game: One Page Dungeon.

One Page Dungeon is a simple and easy role-playing-game for one player. As the title suggests, you can play with a single sheet of paper. This game is perfect for a plane ride, hotel room, or anywhere else. You can even compete with your friends to see who can get the most gold.

The game works simply. You move along a grid, creating new random rooms and corridors with random monsters and treasure until you encounter the boss. It is great for fans of rouge-lite games.
Create a character from 3 different classes. Choose weapons, armor, and spells to suit your play style.

All you need are these rules, a single sheet of paper, a pencil/eraser, and a handful of six-sided dice.

This first volume sees your character diving into a Goblin Forge to kill as many of the little green guys as possible while racking up the treasure. Pick up your bow, take up the ax, and jump into One Page Dungeon.

As with all my games, this one is FREE (or Pay What You Want) for the first week from DriveThru RPG! Any donations are greatly appreciated!

Also, look for future volumes in the series which will offer new classes, spells, items, and more!

Merry Murder Elves (Solo RPG)

It’s Christmas Eve, but something is terribly wrong. The elves have gone mad with bloodlust, the reindeer are rabid, the gingerbread houses have been burnt to a crisp with the families inside, but Santa still must deliver presents by Christmas morning.

Can you help Santa and his Wife navigate through his house, workshop, and stables—and kill off the murderous elves and reindeer—in order to reach the sleigh and deliver the presents before Christmas morning?

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Murder Elves is a Roll+Write Role-Playing Game of Christmas mayhem for a solo player. That means you don’t need a Game Master. This system uses a single D12 for all rolls and is based upon a simplified version of the Micro RPG system created by Noah Patterson for such games as The Dark West, Radio Mystery RPG, and Barbarians of the Gothic Waste. This new system is called the MicroD12 system and it is specifically designed for solo play.

This introductory edition of the game, featuring premade characters and premade maps, will show basic concepts and mechanics that will appear in the future rulebooks and adventures utilizing this system. Future books will include various game genres and settings that have become popular with gamers in recent and past years.

You can pick up this new RPG on DriveThru RPG today for only 99 cents

Radio Mystery RPG (Micro RPG V2)

Merry Christmas, Gamers! Today, I am excited to announce the release of the first book in my new Micro RPG line. This book is part of a series of 1940s inspired pulp style games called Radio Waves. It is also the first book to use the revitalized and simplified version of my Micro RPG system.

The new game book is avilable now in digital PDF format on DriveThru RPG for only $1.99 or in paperback print format on Amazon for only $5.99. And, in honor of the Christmas season, this game includes a free holiday themed adventure (called an Episode) in the back of the book.

WHAT IS RADIO MYSTERY RPG?

Radio Mystery RPG is a pen and paper RPG that takes place in the crime-ridden pulpy noir world of radio shows and programs from the 30s and 40s. Ultimately, this game’s theme is centered on the drama and action present in detective and mystery radio shows rather than on gritty realism.

Each campaign (called a SHOW in this game) is split up into “timed” episodes. A cast of police officers, detective, PIs, dames, and femme fatales will come together to create compelling mystery stories in the grimy crime-ridden streets of 1940s America.

The Micro RPG V2 system is specifically designed to create a tense and pulp-esque form of storytelling where anything can happen. A sense of urgency is created by all the players using one deck of cards. When the deck runs out, the “Episode” of the radio show ends—potentially with a cliffhanger. Moreover, Radio Mystery RPG is the first in a series of gamebooks titled “Radio Waves.” Future books in the series will cover other classical radio show genres.

WHAT IS A MICRO RPG (V2)?

Many pen and paper role-playing games on today’s market are known to be very heavy with rules and regulations. Character creation alone can take up to an hour or more for some of these games. Many games even incorporate heavy board game elements such as tactical maps, tokens, and movement. Because of this fact, many would-be gamers shy away from RPGs because of the daunting complexity or rules. Gamers who enjoy RPGs may not have time for complex games.

Well, Radio Mystery RPG—along with other games in the Micro RPG line—focus more on the creative element of storytelling rather than number crunching or lengthy rulebooks.
Moreover, this book is part of the second edition of the Micro RPG (called Version 2 or V2). It takes the simple rules from the previous edition and simplifies them even further, making it so anyone can jump right in and enjoy the game.

In Radio Mystery RPG character creation should take no longer than 5 to 10 minutes for all players. Learning the game system and explaining it to players should be simple and straightforward as well.
The rules in this game act more like guidelines to facilitate good gameplay and storytelling rather than number crunching.

Radio Mystery RPG and other Micro RPGs should facilitate a fast-paced game that is easy to pick up for gamers who are on the go. You could play a half hour session during your lunch break at work, squeeze in a round during the baby’s nap, or even play while you are in the car during a road trip! That is the ease and leisure of The Micro RPG V2 system.
