NEW One Page Dungeon: Frostmire: Holiday in Chillson Wood

Hello once again, gamers. It is time for another game release! Just in time for the holiday break from work, here is the next entry in the One Page Dungeon Frostmire roleplaying game series! This time, we take a break from subterranean locations to explore the woods!

This release will be my last game for 2019, as I take a break to enjoy the holidays with my wife and my family. However, knowing myself, I will not be able to resist working on new games occasionally through the break. (Any ideas or desires for the new year? Shoot me a message via Facebook).

All I can say is I've been blown away by the support from all of you this year. I never anticipated the popularity that the One Page System and many of my other games would garner. It has inspired me to be more daring and take more risks with this system and other games in general (Keep an eye out for some truly exciting stuff to come next year) So, without further ado, here is the description for One Page Dungeon Frostmire Volume II.

Welcome to One Page Dungeon: Frostmire, a simple and easy role-playing-game for the solo player. You only need some printer paper, dice, and a pencil to play, making it perfect for a plane ride, hotel room, or anywhere else. The game works with a procedurally generated dungeon, adding some randomness to the game. The second volume of the FrostMire season takes place during the Yuleton Celebration in Trillit, when the festivities are interrupted by packs of hungry wolves from the woods.

NEW CHAPBOOK: Christmas Cop Nights

"Welcome to the party, pal!"

My latest Chapbook RPG is out today. Following right on the coattails of Undead Nights, Christmas Cop Nights keeps the modern urban setting but takes it to a new genre--exchanging zombies for 80s Action Movies. Specifically, the ones set during the holidays.

In this game players take on the roles of cops and police detectives, hunting down the worst of the worst criminals during the holiday season.

Players need to keep their Holiday Spirit levels up while facing off against hard situations and even their own pasts and vices.

What is a ChapBook game? It is a light pen and paper game where the rules take up no more than thirty to forty pages total. It is intended to be fast to learn and easy to play.

What do you need to play? You’ll need this ChapBook, a single six-sided die (known as a D6 in these rules), pencils, paper, one friend to act as Game Master (GM), and one to five friends to act as Cops.

And that's it!

NEW GAME: One Page Apocalypse: Christmas Fallout

Hello again, gamers, and Happy Holidays. Nothing quite says winter solstice like a nuclear winter. At least, that is the case in the newest game in the One Page series!

One Page Apocalypse is a game I started working on around the same time as One Page Dungeon. However, I knew I wanted it to have a little bit more depth and complexity than One Page Dungeon, due to the fact that zombies, vampires, urban settings, and apocalypse fiction are all in my top favorite genres. I love fantasy, but it doesn't hold a candle to how much I adore urban/modern horror. (I blame books, tv, and movies from the late 90s and early 2000s).

In any case, I am thrilled to finally bring you the first of hopefully many entries in the Apocalypse version of this system. And hopefully the beginnings of a lot more in-depth games like I've never done before.

Some of the new things in this book include:

  • Rules for creating your own "home base" as either part of a survivor's compound or as a lone wolf.
  • Rules for infection and cold. Try to stave off illness and death as long as possible.
  • Rules for Mutations! How will the radiation of nuclear winter change you?
  • And FINALLY a short list of rules for converting the system to multiplayer.

Welcome to One Page Apocalypse, a simple and easy role-playing-game for the solo player. You only need some printer paper, dice, and a pencil to play, making it perfect for a plane ride, hotel room, or anywhere else. The game works with a procedurally generated game map, adding some randomness to the game.

This first volume marks the opening to Season 1 of the game--set in chilling nuclear winter where radiation turns any dead bodies into zombies. This season builds on the absolute basics of the One Page System (used in One Page Dungeon and One Page Cthulhu) and updates it for a modern horror setting.

Each volume will build upon the last, offering new snowy and frozen buildings and locations to explore in each entry--along with new horrors, mutations, and class options as well. Each entry stands alone, so no need to worry about playing them in order!
So, get ready to survive the apocalypse!

You can buy the first entry NOW for only 50 cents on DriveThru RPG. OR you can wait for the paperback copy coming soon!

NEW ROLL+WRITE: Christmas Cafe

Happy Holidays, Gamers! The season of joy is upon us and many of us will be spending some time with family. What better way to spend that time than playing some games with our loved ones. Well, this easy and family-friendly game is a perfect distraction this holiday season.

What says Christmas more than warm drinks, candy canes, and cookies? Say it all in this game where you get to own and manage your own Christmas themed cafe.

In Christmas Cafe, players take on the role of new business owners managing holiday-themed cafes. In a busy downtown Old Market district, you are near a college and rely on students for a lot of your sales. However, if you want to beat out the competition, you’ll have to expand your menu, garner popularity through word of mouth, and--most important--you’ll need to manage your money wisely.

The player with the most profits at the end of December is the winner.

NEW RPG: Undead Nights

Hello again, gamer friends! It has been a long time since I released a traditional RPG--one that doesn't have a game board and instead is played in the gamer's imagination. One with a Game Master at the helm. It seems odd, considering I got started publishing games by doing ultra simplistic RPGs.

Well, it's about time I got around to it again. And thanks to one follower who asked for a new zombie game. Here it is! One that I started working on over a year or more ago and never finished. The latest in the Chapbook RPG series: Undead Nights!

Here is the blurb from the back of the manual:

Welcome to Undead Nights, a ChapBook Roleplaying Game (CBRPG). What is a ChapBook game? It is a light pen and paper game where the rules take up no more than thirty to forty pages total. It is intended to be fast to learn and easy to play.

What is Undead Nights? It is a game of horror adventure and survival set in the nuclear zombie apocalypse.

What do you need to play? You’ll need this ChapBook, a single six-sided die (known as a D6 in these rules), pencils, paper, one friend to act as Game Master (GM), and one to five friends to act as Survivors.

You can pick up the game now at a discounted price for only 50 cents through DriveThru RPG. Or, if you prefer print, you can wait for the paperback copy to come to amazon in the next week.

Also, if you have a friend who likes simple games, this tiny-sized pocket style book could make a great stocking stuffer.

NEW GAME: Charge Stations!

Hello, gamers. I recently asked what some of you would like to see coming out from MicroRPG. A few asked for a sci-fi roll+write. So, here it is! Charge Stations!

"Commander’s Log - Solardate 11.12.30
Due to an unforeseen systems malfunction, while passing through an anomaly, our warp drive has lost all power. Additionally, it has managed to power down all of our weapons systems onboard the U.S.S. Frontiersman. Usually, such a malfunction would be little more than a minor setback. It may even prove a useful piece of scientific and engineering research as the crew works on solving the problem and figuring out why the anomaly effects out ship in the first place.

However, things seem a bit more dire for us at the moment. The anomaly was right on the outer reaches of Kornathian space and we’ve been set adrift near one of their war parties. They have no desire to stop and discuss the situation or work out terms of peaceful negotiation. Instead, they have opened fire upon us.

I, as the commanding officer of this ship, can not simply let this be. I have men and women aboard I need to protect. As such, we will continue to work on fixing the warp drive and powering up our weapons, all the while we will fight off these unwanted attacks. It seems our choices are either to get the warp drive back up and running, so we can light jump out of here, or defeat the capital ship that is leading the war party against us."

Charge Stations! is a science fiction roll+write game where a single player takes command of the U.S.S. Frontiersman. It is up to the player to repair the ship all while fighting off incoming attacks. This is done by rolling handfuls of six-sided dice (D6s) which represent the ship’s crew members and assigning them to various tasks around the ship. All you need to play is a pencil, some dice, and this book.

This Unthankful Land: Thanksgiving Special 2019

Happy Thanksgiving to all my fellow gamers in the United States! Today I'm happy to announce this year's Thanksgiving special. It is called This Unthankful Land and it is the latest entry in the Point Chills system fo board games (a follow up to Sleepy Hollow, Hunt for the Headless Horseman).

You are a western settler in the mid to late 1800s. You moved yourself and your family out to this unknown place with the promise of a free parcel of land from the government. You had high dreams of working the dirt with your own two hands, planting seed, and watching as the crops shot up like giants toward the sky. You envisioned a landscape of cattle, animals well fed and fat for the market. You relished the thought of taking your animals, your crops, and selling them for a pretty penny at the end of the season. You imagined sitting around the table with your family, your wife and six children, and celebrating the bounties of your harvest over a large Thanksgiving feast!

Unfortunately, none of that has happened. A vicious late summer storm destroyed your crops with hail. A plague of bugs swooped in afterward to eat what little might have been salvageable. The cattle all contracted some sort of illness, withering their bodies away to nothingness before your very eyes. Worst of all is the Turkey, the huge bird you’d been fattening up for the Thanksgiving holiday. That turkey went berserk, overcome with some sort of illness of the mind. It attacked the weakened cattle, eating the flesh off their bodies. It even attacked your youngest son before rushing off into the wild.

Now with winter coming, you not only face complete isolation and starvation, but you also fear what lurks in the woods and mountains surrounding your farm. Could it be that the turkey is still waiting out there? Watching you at every turn? Perhaps he wants to feast on you this Thanksgiving.

In any case, there seems to be a curse over this unthankful land.

This Unthankful Land is a solo print and play RPG board game of Horror Survival in the American West. You can pick it up now on DriveThru RPG. OR keep an eye out for the print paperback version of the game coming soon.

Welcome to Frostmire, a frozen and harsh fantasy world where only the bravest (or perhaps foolhardy) heroes dare to venture. This chilling and somewhat dark realm is the setting for Season 2 of One Page Dungeon. Each volume will build upon the last, offering new snowy and frost-covered caverns and dungeons in each entry--along with new monsters, spells, and class options as well. Each entry stands alone, so no need to worry!

One Page Dungeon: Frostmire is a simple and easy role-playing-game for the solo player. You only need some printer paper, dice, and a pencil to play, making it perfect for a plane ride, hotel room, or anywhere else. Additionally, for those who played season 1, season 2 goes into greater detail on rules--helping to clarify gameplay even further. Enjoy!

Friday Freebie! DINO SPOTTERS!

Happy Friday, everyone! Usually, I don't release games back to back (Instead I try to focus on one new game release every week or so) but this morning I was browsing through old game files and found this one I'd finished making and never uploaded! So, here it is! A Friday Freebie!

In Dino Spotters, players act as guest photographers at a brand new dinosaur park. You are the first people on earth to have a chance to photograph these exotic animals. You are trying to catch the best glimpse of these new attractions.

The player with the best pictures of the most dinosaurs at the end of the game wins. But watch out, nighttime shooting can be a challenge, incoming tropical storms can wreak havoc on camera equipment, and getting too close to the dinos--specifically the t-rex--can result is trouble along the way.

Northern Voyage: Strategic Warfare During the Viking Age

Hello again, gamers! My apologies for how quiet things have been lately, but I ended up in the hospital over the weekend and didn't get a whole lot of work done. Thankfully, I'm on the mend and have had energy to work on an older game design I had filed away for a rainy day.

It's been a while since I released a Wargame, so what better time than now?

You are a Jarl in charge of a Viking Voyage into the Northern Territories. Your goal? To seek fame and fortune in the eyes of your people and your Gods. To do this? Conquer all of the northern towns and fortresses.

Northern Voyage is the 2nd game in the “Point Ops” Wargame series. The first game in the series was Blood & Gold, a pirate-themed wargame. Northern Voyage takes the war to the ancient world of the Vikings.

Additionally, this game streamlines many of the rules, the flow of gameplay, and the components. This is to make it so the game can easily fit onto a single printed page while also making it friendly to newer solo wargamers. You also only need 1 six-sided die for these newer rules (rather than the previous 6+ dice), thus making the game easier to travel with.

HAPPY HALLOWEEN 2019! With One Page Asylum!

Happy Halloween, again, gamers! It has been a wonderful spooky year for games this October, and I have one last final treat for your candy bag! All you need to say is Trick-or-Treat!

One Page Asylum is my latest solo RPG using the One Page System and it is FREE TODAY ONLY for Halloween 2019! Those of you who have tried the system will be happy to see the addition of a few new elements for the horror survival theme including backtracking and a Terror Level track (Things you can expect to see in future One Page Cthulhu entries). Here is a little more about One Page Asylum.

What once was rain has turned to icy sleet, running down your cheeks, the back of your neck. Your hair is wet and sticks to your skin, chilling you further against the late October night. Your feet feel frozen standing in the cold mud of the woods. You know you need to find shelter quickly or you’ll certainly die of exposure. Unfortunately, your old clunker of a car broke down miles from the nearest town. Your only hope is to find an isolated farmhouse, barn, or some other building to spend the night and wait out the unexpected storm.

Marching through the woods, you make your way forward, the isolated road vanishing behind you through the thick trees. It feels as if you walk for hours. Your fingers go numb. Your feet burn. Your stomach grumbles for something to eat. Then you see it. Stepping out of the trees into a clearing, you are dwarfed by an enormous building. It looks like it was once a hospital of sorts . . . but now it is abandoned.

Gritting your teeth, you head for the door.

Welcome to One Page Asylum, a stand-alone “one-shot” entry in the One Page series of solitaire role-playing games. Perfect for a plane ride, hotel room, or anywhere else. Based on the same system as One Page Dungeon and One Page Cthulhu, this game uses a randomly generated grid map, creating a creepy labyrinth for your lost and intrepid hero to survive.

THERE IS SOMETHING IN THE HOUSE this Halloween!

Happy Halloween gamers and Micro RPG fans! Halloween is this week and it is my favorite time of year! What better way to celebrate than by returning to one of my favorite horror subgenres--Asian Horror. Every year, my sibling and I binge watch as much A-horror as possible. This year we live too far apart to celebrate together, so this is dedicated to them!

Read more about the game below:

As a lifelong member of the Tokyo police force, you have seen and investigated many horrific things. However, nothing left you as disturbed or shaken as the house. . . The house was one of your very first investigations after being promoted to Detective. An elderly woman who lived there disappeared for months, inciting a missing person investigation, only to have her turn up a year later in the empty home . . . her head removed. You never did figure out where the woman vanished to in all those months, and you never figured out who killed her. All you know is that after you stepped foot in the house, your life took a turn for the worse. Your wife died, your home burned down, and things never seemed to get better. Now, near retirement and severely alcoholic, you are determined to go back to the house and figure out just what is going on in there once and for all. Somehow, however, you know that whatever is living there . . . it is evil.

There is Something in the House is a simple Roll+Write inspired by Japanese horror media. It is a miniature print and play-style board game with storytelling elements where you take on the role of a retiring police detective. All you need is the 2 game sheets, a pencil, and some dice.

Turn down the lights, turn on some spooky music, and play by candlelight this coming Halloween night!

As always, the game is FREE for a limited time through the DriveThru RPG pay what you want system! Get it before Halloween!

One Page Cthulhu: Volume 3: Night in Arkham Woods (FREE)

1922 Arkham, Massachusetts, A Letter from Herbert West, Professor at Miskatonic University

Dear Friend,

Since last we met, I’ve discovered something even worse than we ever imagined. The cult we pushed out of the Miskatonic University campus, the ones we thought we wiped out from the tunnels of the Black Cave, have found a new home in Arkham Woods. This time, they mean to complete their ritual and awaken the Ancient Ones they worship. “The Blind Ones,” as they called themselves, have recruited countless youth from around the town of Arkham with false promises of freedom and power. Instead, they are performing terrible rituals on them to turn them into twisted and lowly creatures of the night, creatures who are part animal with horns and fur, creatures who thirst to feast on human blood. The cult calls them the Children of the Goat. They are the unholy spawn of the Ancient God known as The Lord of the Wood.

I’m calling upon you this one final time to help me put a stop to this madness once and for all.

Sincerely,
Herbert West

Welcome to One Page Cthulhu. A simple and easy 1920s horror role-playing-game you can play with a single sheet of paper. Perfect for a plane ride, hotel room, or anywhere else. You can even compete with your friends to see who can get the most clues and solve the mystery of Arkham Woods.

Based on the same system as One Page Dungeon, One Page Cthulhu takes your solo roleplaying to the streets and locations of Arkham. This version of the system introduces sanity rules, investigation, and Lore Points. Additionally, it offers a new and frightening way to level up your character.

This is the third and final entry in the Herbert West trilogy for the game.

Sleepy Hollow: Hunt for the Headless Horseman (New Release!)

Happy Halloween, Gamers!

Today I am thrilled to announce the release of my latest print-and-play game design. Sleepy Hollow: Hunt for the Headless Horseman--a solitaire game of horror investigation.

In the game, the player takes on the role of the school teacher Ichabod Crane who has unwittingly unleashed the Headless Horseman on his small town of Sleepy Hollow. Check out the story below:

Mild-mannered school teacher Ichabod Crane loves ghost stories and occult tales. So much so that he reads them to his classroom each morning during the witching autumn months. Upon receiving a mysterious package one day, Ichabod finds a book inside. Its pages contain frightening yarns about Horseman Hollow just outside of town, and he can’t resist the urge to read it out loud to his students. Unfortunately for Ichabod, this is no mere book and the words--read aloud--awaken the devilish specter known as The Headless Horseman from his slumber. Now, every night of October, the Horseman rides from the hollow and into town, terrorizing the residents. Unhappy with this stupid mistake, but also unwilling to face the problem themselves, the town council assigns Ichabod the duty of tracking down the Horseman’s secret lair and putting a stop to the horrors once and for all. However, Ichabod isn’t as foolish as he appears. He knows that one of the council members is the person who unearthed the book and sent it to Ichabod. Someone is working with the Horseman to bring doom on Sleepy Hollow.

Sleepy Hollow: The Hunt for the Headless Horseman is a game of mystery and horror set in 1700s New England. It uses a “point-to-point” map system as its primary form of gameplay. You also have a list of 6 statistics that measure your abilities and equipment as Ichabod Crane. The map and player sheet include useful tables for tracking damage, weather, terror levels, and more. The game can be played as a board game or as a roll+write. Before playing the first time, print off the Map, Player Sheet, and Tokens (unless playing roll+write style) and mount them on cardboard or cardstock.

One Page Cthulhu: Volume 2: The Black Caverns (FREE)

1922 Arkham, Massachusetts, A Letter from Herbert West, Professor at Miskatonic University

Dear Friend,

It seems I am forced, once again, to call upon you for your services. I hate to draw you away from the much-needed rest you are getting since our last encounter on the campus of Miskatonic University--but this is a matter of life and death.

I have it on good authority that something strange is happening over at The Black Caverns near the edge of town. I can hardly believe it myself, but it seems the same cult we faced previously is finding a new home in the labyrinth beneath Arkham. The information I’ve gathered is that they call themselves “The Blind Ones” and they prefer the dark and subterranean areas of Arkham.  It is a well-known fact among the professors of geology here at the university that there are many varied tunnels and paths in those caves. Most agree that at least seventy-five percent of the underground system has gone unexplored . . . or at the very least undocumented. It would seem that most of those who’ve gone down there have never come back up. I hate to say it, but I believe they are being used in some sort of dark ritual. I beg you, go into those caverns, find the missing persons, and stop whatever horrific rituals are being performed.

Sincerely,
Herbert West

Welcome to One Page Cthulhu. A simple and easy 1920s horror role-playing-game you can play with a single sheet of paper. Perfect for a plane ride, hotel room, or anywhere else. You can even compete with your friends to see who can get the most clues and solve the mystery of The Black Caverns.

Based on the same system as One Page Dungeon, One Page Cthulhu takes your solo roleplaying to the streets and locations of Arkham. This version of the system introduces sanity rules, investigation, and Lore Points. Additionally, it offers a new and frightening way to level up your character.

This new entry also provides rules for Tunnel vs Cavern type rooms.

As always, you can pick up this new game for FREE for a limited time from DriveThru RPG. Any donations are much appreciated and go toward me being able to make more games in the future.

One Page Cthulhu: Volume 1: Miskatonic Tunnels (FREE)

1922 Arkham, Massachusetts, A Letter from Herbert West, Professor at Miskatonic University

Dear Friend,

It has always been rumored that there are tunnels running under the campus of Miskatonic University. Long have students and faculty alike speculated about the strange possibility that these tunnels exist--and yet no one has ever proven their existence. Many have speculated that the tunnels were originally built for use by the faculty more easily and quickly move about campus, but I hardly believe that to be true. Others think it is a remnant from the Civil War--something the south  Again, I disagree. Further, students have whispered about a far more sinister origin for the tunnels.

This is the theory I agree with. My research and investigation into the case brings me to the conclusion that the tunnels were made like a labyrinth--something once used by a cult to summon and harness unimaginable horrors from another world. Now, it acts as a prison for those secrets. That is why I need you. I have found an old and incomplete blueprint which reveals the entrance to the tunnels.
That’s where you come in. I want you to go down and investigate, find clues to what happened there, and map out the tunnels for me.

Hello again print and play game fans!

Today I am excited to announce the newest iteration of the "One Page" game line: One Page Cthulhu. Many of you have requested this, so here it is! A simple and easy 1920s horror role-playing-game you can play with a single sheet of paper. Perfect for a plane ride, hotel room, or anywhere else. You can even compete with your friends to see who can get the most clues and solve the mystery of Miskatonic University.

Based on the same system as One Page Dungeon, One Page Cthulhu takes your solo roleplaying to the streets and locations of Arkham--such as Miskatonic University. This version of the system introduces sanity rules, investigation, and Lore Points. Additionally, it offers a new and frightening way to level up your character.

As always, you can pick up this new game for FREE for a limited time from DriveThru RPG. Any donations are much appreciated and go toward me being able to make more games in the future.

Blood & Gold: Naval Warfare in the Age of Piracy (FREE)

Hello again, gaming friends! Recently I was digging through some old game files and designs I'd never gotten around to finishing or publishing. I stumbled upon this one, which had been a favorite of mine at the time I was working on it. So, today, I bring you my latest print and play wargame creation:

Blood & Gold: Naval Warfare in the Age of Piracy

Take control of your very own pirate ship in this abstract simulation of naval warfare during the age of piracy and high adventure. Pillage towns and forts. Destroy rival pirate ships. Evade the Royal Navy. Survive harsh tropical storms. Escape with the gold.

Blood & Gold is an abstract solitare naval wargame set during the age of piracy. It uses a “point-to-point” map system as its main form of gameplay. You also have a list of 6 statistics that measure your pirate crew and ship. Finally, at the bottom of your map, you get a couple of useful tables for wind and sea rolls as well as damage tracks for enemy pirate ships and Royal Navy ships. (NOTE: This is the Print and Play version of the game. I had originally intended this to be a Game Crafter title, but had never gotten it off the ground.)

New Arkham Horror Final Hour Announcement

Up to this point, I haven't done much talking about other board games (unless it is a war game) here on my blog. However, when it comes to decent Cthulhu Mythos based games, I have to make an exception.

The trailer for the new Arkham game from FFG just hit the internet yesterday, and I have to say--it looks promising. I'm particularly interested in the short set up and short playtime. I also LOVE the setting of Miskatonic U. They were always my favorite faction back in Call of Cthulhu LCG. In any case, it feels impossible to get people to play full-fledged Arkham most of the time due to its heavy set up and time commitment. So something in that vein seems just right. Some might argue we already have a "short Arkham" with Elder Sign. While I do love Elder Sign, it does seem pretty light on story and theme. It mostly just feels like a dice game (what it is) which is fine. I used to try and get people to read the flavor text on all the cards, but no one is willing to do it. But if I want something that has more story and mystery to it, Final Hour might fit.

Another note I had was on people's response to this announcement. A lot of folks seem upset that there is another Arkham game. Everyone seems to moan and complain about the fact that there are "too many" games in the series, but I don't agree. Arkham does have a lot of games but doesn't come close to some of the others from FFG or other game companies. For instance, if I have to see one more announcement about a Star Wars game, I'm going to hurl. Not to mention, how many stupid fantasy games get announced and released every year? Come on, developers. Enough of the fantasy settings. Give me a decent and immersive Cyberpunk game or something. What about an anime-themed one?

North Channel: Naval Conflict of the American Revolutionary War (Game Release!)

The 4th of July, also known as Independence Day, is quickly approaching here in America. I've been doing a lot of reading about the history of my country, and specifically about the conflicts that led to the founding of the U.S.A. I never realized just how interesting 18th century America was and am quickly seeing how it could become one of my favorite topics for wargaming. Of course, as I look back as elementary school, the only history courses I can even remember being excited about and truly interested in was the American Revolutionary War and the American Civil War. There is something about delving deep into one's own history that has such deep meaning.

As a result, I decided this year to try my hand at designing my own historical (within reason) print and play war game (with roll-and-write elements, as always). I've always loved naval games, so it only made sense to try and find a conflict that took place on the seas.

The end result is North Channel: Naval Conflict of the American Revolution!

On April 24th, 1778 along The North Channel between Ireland and Scotland --Captain John Paul Jones of the USS Ranger set out to seize and capture a Royal Navy ship just outside the town of  Carrickfergus. That ship was the HMS Drake, captained by George Burden. Jones immediately had the upper hand, in both firepower and maneuverability. The Ranger was built as a warship while the Drake was simply a merchant ship outfitted with 4-pound cannons. Not to mention, Jones had the upper hand in knowledge of the enemy ship, given to him by an area local Lieut. Dobbs. During the ensuing attack, the Ranger inflicted devastating damage to her opponent--killing its captain in the process. The ships fought in close range combat, but never close enough for boarding actions. In the end, Jones succeeded in capturing the Drake and as a result, gained international fame.

North Channel is a simple table-top “postcard” wargame of ship-to-ship combat for two players. One player will take on the role of the American ship the USS Ranger, while the other takes on the role of the HMS Drake. The American player will have the upper hand with higher firepower, a larger crew, and a sturdier hull (as it was historically). The Britsh player will have to be smart (and lucky) in order to outmaneuver their enemy, and not succumb to the USS Ranger.

Will you be able to change history?
